e-commerce Fundamentals Conclusion

In this module, the fundamentals of e-commerce and issues in creating a Web site were examined.
You also learned about specific steps in the overall design process, including site archetypes and models. Make sure that you understand these fundamental concepts, because you will build on this information in the following lessons.
In this module, you learned how to:
  1. Outline the process for planning and designing a site
  2. Describe the steps involved in designing an e-commerce Web site
  3. Formulate the design goals for your e-commerce site
  4. Meet your customers’ expectations with archetypes
  5. Develop a storyboard to outline your plans
  6. Assess outsourcing options for your e-commerce solution

Key terms and concepts

  1. Branding: The ability to market the image of a product consistently.
  2. Browser compatibility: When creating a Web site, you must make sure that the site is available to users in your target market. Sometimes, this requires making the site's presentation as generic as possible. In other markets, you may find that specializing in the latest technologies is the only way to attract users.
  3. Customer relationship management software: CRM software allows you to discover the cost-effectiveness of a site, track users, and ensure accountability.
  4. Suport staff: You will have to hire staff to keep the site running, process orders, and (possibly) obtain products, and contact customers.
