Setting up Goals in Google Analytics

  1. What are three types of Goals in Analytics?
    Answer:

    Goal types

    Goals fall into one of 5 types, listed in the table below:
    Goal Type Description Example
    Destination A specific location loads Thank you for registering! web page or app screen
    Duration Sessions that lasts a specific amount of time or longer 10 minutes or longer spent on a support site
    Pages/Screens per session A user views a specific number of pages or screens 5 pages or screens have been loaded

    Answer:
    A sales checkout process.
  3. What are the funnel steps?
    Answer:
    The funnel steps are the pages that visitors encounter on their way to the goal.
  4. What does a funnel enable you to observe?
    Answer:
    A funnel allows you to see where visitors a) entered and b) exited the conversion process.
  5. How many choices do you have for the match type option when setting up Goals?
    Answer:
    Three
    1) Head Match, 2) Exact Match, 3) Regular Expression Match
  6. What does the Goal URL Match Type "Head Match" define?
    Answer:
    It indicates that the URL of the page visited must match what you enter for the Goal URL, but if there is any additional data at the end of the URL then the goal will still be counted.
    For example,

    and
    xml-programming/module2/metalanguages-markup-quiz-result.jsp?q1=A&q2=B&q3=C&q3=D
    
    would be counted as the same.
  7. What is one key difference between "Head Match" and "Exact Match"?
    Answer:
    With "Head Match" you can have every page in a subdirectory be counted as a goal.
    Exact Match means that the URL of the page visited must exactly match what you enter for the Goal Url.
  8. What does Google analytics match when dealing with Goal URL Match Types?
    Answer:
    Google Analytics is only matching Request URIs. This means the domain is ignored.
  9. For which Goals should you specify a monetary value?
    Answer:
    You should only do this for non-ecommerce goals. To avoid inflating revenue results, you should only provide values for non-ecommerce goals.
  10. What is the difference between a goal conversion and an ecommerce transaction?
    Answer:
    A goal conversion can only happen once during a visit, but an e-commerce transaction can occur multiple times during a visit.
